Holiday Workout Guide

Are you traveling for Christmas? Will you be staying in a guest room or hotel room? Will you be short on time?
If you answered yes to any of the above, then this one is especially for you!
I love traveling as much as the next person, but when it comes to staying on top of working out, I’m not a fan of what vacations can do to my fitness routine. However, very often the trick becomes finding a way to work out in small quarters with little to no equipment. That’s where a deck of cards come in! AND the added bonus is you can flip through the workout in as little or as much time as you want.

I learned this little routine from my own trainer about 3 1/2 years ago, and it is quite possibly the easiest way to sweat without having to do any guess work. It’s simple:
1) Grab a deck of cards, and find some space to be able to move around a little.

2) Assign each suit to a particular move or workout. An example might look like this: Hearts = bicycle crunches, Spades = squat jumps, Clubs = jumping jacks, Diamonds = push ups.

What I like about this part is that you can make as easy or as challenging as you want, or as cardio-based or as resistance-based as you want.

3) As you flip through the deck, do as many reps as the value of the card says of the workout that you assigned to the suit. So an example is if you drew 2 of spades, you’d do 2 squat jumps. Then you draw a 10 of hearts, so you do 10 bicycle crunches.

When it comes to face cards, you can technically make the values as much as you want. You can increase each by 2, or you can use the normal values of 15, 20, 25, and 30. BUT, remember, you’re going to be flipping through the whole deck which means you will be doing a lot of reps per exercise. Without face cards included, it’s 55 reps of each exercise ( I told you it will work you VERY  well!)

And that’s it! Simple, easy, and you can decide how much you want to sweat.
